Associate Chair and IRF Medical Director, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R)

The Department of PM&R is seeking a physician leader to serve as the Associate Chair and Medical Director of
the Inpatient Rehab Facility (IRF) at Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH). This position reports directly into
the Chair of Rehab Services for SIUH and its service line for the health system. In this role, the Associate Chair will
assist in managing and directing all PM&R services for SIUH, provide direct patient care to inpatients admitted to
the IRF, oversight and adherence to pertinent regulatory requirements, including federal and state agencies,
encourage academic research activities within the department and help set overall goals of department. The ideal
candidate will have strategic, clinical, quality, administrative, teaching and research responsibilities.
In addition to providing strategic leadership, the Medical Director for the Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility will
maintain an active clinical presence on the IRF unit. This leader will oversee the daytoday operations and overall
success of the program, ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care. The Medical Director will be responsible for
performance improvement and quality improvement initiatives, presenting outcomes and progress at hospital forums
and committee meetings. The role also includes supporting CARF accreditation efforts and fostering strong
interdisciplinary collaboration with therapy services, medical and surgical specialties, case management, social
work, and other ancillary partners to optimize patient outcomes and operational excellence.
Requirements
- M.D. Degree or equivalent from an accredited College of Medicine
- Board Certification in PM&R
- Currently licensed as a physician in the State of New York
- Experience in directorship of an IRF and PM&R clinical and/or teaching program, preferably in a major medical center or health system
- Outstanding communication and management skills, and an ability to work collaboratively with medical
staff, hospital management, and staff - Must possess recent experience in managing IRF patients employing generally accepted and currently used
methods and techniques
