About our Speaker:
Dr. Whyte is a physiatrist and experimental psychologist, and the founding director and Institute Scientist Emeritus at Moss Rehabilitation Research Institute. His career has been devoted to research and clinical care for individuals with severe brain injury. His work has contributed to the development of improved assessment tools, expanded knowledge of long-term recovery, and the characterization of disorders of consciousness, attention, and executive function. He co-led, with Joseph Giacino, the multicenter amantadine trial which supported current evidence-based treatment recommendations. His research has been supported by the National Institutes of Health, National Institute on Disability, Independent Living and Rehabilitation Research, the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute, and others. In addition to his empirical research, he has helped define the special methodologic challenges of rehabilitation research, leads two research career development programs, and is a lead developer of the Rehabilitation Treatment Specification System. He has won awards from the IBIA, the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine, the Association of Academic Physiatrists, and others, for his accomplishments in the field of brain injury.
