The Winifred Masterson Burke Rehabilitation Hospital (Burke) founded in 1915 is located at White Plains, NY just north of New York City. Currently, Burke is 150-bed hospital with 8 outpatient sites accredited by the Joint Commission and the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) with ACGME accredited PM&R residency. Position Summary

  • Physiatrist specializing in Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) directing the entire Inpatient (30 bed designated unit for SCI)/Outpatient SCI service at Burke.
  • Leading the strategic planning and execution of expansion of the SCI patient care, education of trainees, and research activities and reporting to Chief Medical Officer at Burke.
  • Academic appointment will be from Dept of Rehabilitation Medicine, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Montefiore Health System.
  • S/he will work in collaboration with our neuropsychologist, social worker, and therapists to address the complex physical, cognitive, and psychological needs of this patient population for integration to the community.
  • S/he will work with residents and/or medical students (via Introduction to Clinical Medicine MS1, part of geriatrics rotation, or electives).
  • Working with adaptive sports service at Burke and medically supervising handcycling and other adaptive sports activities at Burke.

Ideal Experience for the Candidate

  • Clinical proficiency & experience in the PM&R care of patients with spinal cord injuries, specifically in the areas of
    • SCI management (traumatic and nontraumatic)
    • Spasticity management
    • Pain management in neurotrauma cases
    • Neurorehabilitation and Neurotrauma consultation
  • Board certification in PM&R and subspecialty certification in SCI
  • Capabilities of collaborating, team building, and being enthusiastic to new service development.
  • Outstanding communication skills with transparency who can connect with other disciplines (neurosurgery, trauma team, stroke neurologist, etc)
  • Great interest in education and clinical research
