      About Our Speaker:

      nyspmr-dr_custodioDr. Gerard Malanga is a renowned specialist in the nonsurgical treatment of orthopedic and sports-related injuries, including neck/back pain, shoulder/knee injuries, and other musculoskeletal conditions. He has expertise in musculoskeletal ultrasound, ultrasound-guided injections and various biologic treatments, and now leads Kessler’s Regenerative Medicine Program.

      A graduate of Villanova University, Dr. Malanga earned his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (now Rutgers New Jersey Medical School), and completed a sports medicine fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He is board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation, pain medicine and sports medicine.

      Dr. Malanga is the founder of New Jersey Sports Medicine, LLC and New Jersey Regenerative Institute, LLC, in Cedar Grove, NJ. He is also a clinical professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School.

      He has lectured throughout the country on a variety of musculoskeletal, spine, and pain management topics. His extensive list of publications includes original research and book chapters, as well as the textbooks, Whiplash and Scientific Evidence of Musculoskeletal Physical Examination and The Atlas of Ultrasound-Guided Musculoskeletal Injections.

      His research interests include stem cell treatments for orthopedic conditions, ultrasound treatment for musculoskeletal conditions, and treatment of chronic tendinosis.

      Dr. Malanga provides sport medicine services to several New Jersey high schools and colleges, and professional teams. Since 1999, he has served as the Head Team Physician of New Jersey City University. In addition, he serves as a consultant to the Rutgers University Athletic Department and the National Hockey League Players’ Association.

      A fellow in the American Academy of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (AAPMR), and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), Dr. Malanga is also the chair of the AAPMR’s Task Force on Regenerative Medicine recently. He has been active in the Physiatric Association of Spine, Sports, and Occupational Rehabilitation (PASSOR), the North American Spine Society (NASS) and the American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine (AIUM). In addition, he was recently elected to the board of directors of the American Academy of Regenerative Medicine (AARM).

      For his work, Dr. Malanga has been recognized as one of the “Best Doctors” in America, and more specifically in New Jersey and the New York metro area, by Castle Connolly, New Jersey Monthly, Inside New Jersey and New York Magazine.
