Hello PM&R Colleagues!
I hope you are all well. The NYSPMR will be launching its inaugural mentorship program this year, and it would be great to have you all support this exciting new initiative!
We are completing an extensive mentorship database consisting of residents, fellows, and attendings that will cover a broad range of PM&R subspecialties and interests. We recognize the value of having a mentor, even one who is in a slightly different subspecialty, to help provide insight, resources, and guidance to a mentee “outside the box” of their own program.
As the field of Rehabilitation Medicine continues to grow, it is also becoming increasingly more competitive. For those who wish to stay in NY or other desirable locations for training or job opportunities, having access to an experienced mentor in the field can provide a lifelong impact.
Our vision is to provide medical students, residents, and fellows the opportunity to seek direct guidance from established Physiatrists in their particular PM&R sub-specialty of interest or to explore different fields/interests, and to foster a mentor/mentee relationship that maintains long-term value for both individuals. For mentors, this is an incredible opportunity to help trainees transition to residency, fellowship, real-life clinical practice, as well as encouraging the use of evidence-based medicine through scientific research. For our mentees, this program will serve as an invaluable resource for career guidance, self- exploration, academic research opportunities, and professional networking within the New York City area and beyond.
We will be using the questionnaire link below to “match” mentors and mentees based on geographic location, clinical interests, and research opportunities to accommodate both individuals and provide a more personalized experience. We will match mentors and mentees in the program for 1 full academic year.
Membership is required for both mentors and mentees, and there is no cost to participate.
It is our hope that you will all participate as mentors who are passionate about giving back to the Rehab community by investing in the futures of those interested in the field!.
